Nuance Communications has released Dragon Dictate 2.0.1, a minor update to its dictation software. The update corrects issues related to MouseGrid and multiple monitors, resolves a crash when updating preferences, and fixes issues related to upgrading Dictate 1.5 profiles. The release also includes fixes for an issue with special keys functioning properly in Spelling mode, and removes the Page Setup menu option to behave as a better Snow Leopard citizen. We couldn't find a download link for the free trial on the Nuance Website, but you can grab the latest version from MacUpdate. The software requires Mac OS X 10.5.6 or later. ($199.99 new, free update, 13.3 MB)
Thoughtful, detailed coverage of the Mac, iPhone, and iPad, plus the best-selling Take Control ebooks.
Delete All Comments in Word in a Flash
You needn't clear comments in a Word document one by one. Instead, bring out the big guns to delete all of them at once:
1. Chose Tools > Keyboard Shortcuts.
2. Under Categories, select Tools.
3. Under Commands, select DeleteAllCommentsInDoc.
4. With the insertion point in the "Press new keyboard shortcut" field, press keys to create a keyboard shortcut. (I use Control-7)
5. Click the Assign button.
6. Click OK.
You can now press your keyboard shortcut to zap out the comments.
The steps above work in Word 2008; they likely work nearly as described in older versions of Word.

Nuance, like the software's original publisher MacSpeech, price its incremental upgrades -from 1.5.x to 2.x) aggressively (read expensively). So far I see little reason for shelling out additional $$ for the "all new" version which offers very little real world improvements (unless you feel that the re branding itself is worth something). It is the best speech recognition software available for the Mac -no doubt about that- but it's editing features are poor, the interface awkward and dealing with words not already in its dictionary is very cumbersome.
