Netflix Offers Streaming-Only Plan, Raises Other Prices

Send Article to a Friend

Most of us associate Netflix with those red envelopes containing DVDs, but Netflix’s members are now watching more content streamed over the Internet than delivered by mail. Because of that change, Netflix is now offering a $7.99-per-month plan that eschews DVDs entirely in favor of unlimited streaming. Simultaneously, Netflix raised the prices of the DVD-delivery plans, with the 1- and 2-disc-at-a-time plans increasing by $1 per month. Although Netflix has continually increased the amount of content available for streaming, only about a fifth of the movies and TV shows in our queue are available for streaming.favicon follow link

Eight dollars, that is what I paid two days ago here in UK to rent one single movie, Ironman 2 in HD online for 48 hours. What is wrong with this picture? How can things be that much askew?
I realize that Netflix' service here probably does not include HD and this years' hit movies, but still and all...

Yeah, this is why I don't ever do video from the iTunes Store - it's just too darn expensive in comparison to Netflix (and now Hulu, though I'm not a fan of the ads).

I realize I'm abnormal in this respect, but I don't have a huge need to see stuff shortly after it is released, and I have nearly 350 items in my Netflix queue, so the chance of me running out of video I want to watch even without access to first-run stuff is non-existent.

Yes. We have a postal DVD rental service here in the UK, LoveFilm. It's pretty good, but not near as cheap as NetFlix and doesn't do streaming.
