VLC 2.0
VideoLAN has released VLC 2.0 (nicknamed Twoflower), a major release for the free, open-source multimedia framework and player that offers wide support for various video formats. At the user interface level, the new release moves to a completely overhauled single-window design. Under the hood, the update provides faster decoding on multi-core processors, improved decoding for MKV and MOV formats, additional codec compatibility (including ProRes and AVC/Intra), and improved subtitle rendering to better fit the displayed window. I could find 2.0.0 rc1, but no 2.0.1. Are you sure there's a 2.0.1? Where is it?
It's just 2.0, available from the VideoLAN Web site.
I love the new VLC Player 2.0. It handles every audio or video file I've thrown at it, with ease! Only snag I found was that the version listed for "Snow Leopard +" is compiled for 64-bit machines; I had to grab the "Leopard/Intel" version, which works great on my Core Duo-based iMac.
I just now checked my VLC and it doesn’t know about 2.0.
If you're using 1.x, the update isn't automatic, from my experience. You must go to the VideoLAN Web site and download 2.0.
