Microsoft Office 2011 14.3.2 and 2008 12.3.6
Microsoft has released Office 2011 14.3.2 and Office 2008 12.3.6, both of which address a security vulnerability that could “allow information disclosure if a user opens a specially crafted email message.” According to the security bulletin on Microsoft’s Web site, the updates ensure that both versions of Microsoft Office for Mac require user consent to download content from external sources. Additionally, the Office 2011 14.3.2 update includes several
fixes, primarily aimed at Outlook. It squashes a bug that didn’t save BCC recipients in Gmail IMAP draft messages, fixes an issue where messages were undeliverable if addressed to contacts that were created in x500 format, ensures that contractions aren’t marked as spelling errors, and fixes a problem with the Offline Address Book that wouldn’t update for some Office 365 users. The update also improves stability when using Track Changes and scrolling through a large Word document and fixes a problem with artifacts appearing during slideshow transitions in PowerPoint. The big question is whether this update also finally fixes the problems with Office365Service crashing repeatedly for some users. Personally I was experiencing this up to four or five times a day, despite having nothing whatsoever to do with Office 365, but having updated to 14.3.2 it looks like this app is now not running. This is very encouraging! But why no mention of this in the release notes for 14.3.2???
After installing this update I can no longer send mail addressed to a Contact Group (local to my Mac; sends OK to Active Directory distro lists). Sending to one of my Groups gives the error: "EmailAddress or ItemId must be included in the request.", and the message stays in Drafts. Expanding the Group name in the To: field (to display individual addressees) gives the same error on Send. It only sends if I put each list member in the To: field individually [OUCH!]. A friend reports identical problem. To date I haven't discovered other reports of this problem. Thanks!
I'm new to the concept of using groups, but am experiencing the same issue. I am simply unable to send "mass" e-mail to a group. Hope someone figures this out, as I don't want to have to type in each name either!
Our campus is experiencing this issue, too. Any email addressed to a group that the user created fails to send. Sometimes you can workaround if you expand the group to a list of individual addresses by double clicking the blue down arrows at the front of the group name. Best to do this in BCC for privacy reasons, if that is important to you.
The message stuck in Drafts can be opened in OWA (if using an Exchange account) and sent from there as a workaround until Microsoft fixes this bug which was introduced with 14.3.2.
