Cull Graphics Quickly with Preview

You're faced with a folder full of images, and you need to sort through them, trashing some number and keeping the rest. For a quick way to do that, select them all, and open them in Preview (in Leopard, at least). You'll get a single window with each graphic as an item in the drawer. Use the arrow keys to move from image to image, and when you see one you want to trash, press Command-Delete to move it from its source folder to the Finder's Trash. (Delete by itself just removes the picture from Preview's drawer.)

Send Article to a Friend

If you have a large iTunes library that’s been bouncing too many spinning beach balls of late, iTunes 11.1.3 aims to solve your woes. Apple’s release notes promise that the update will improve performance when switching views within large iTunes libraries, as well as fix an issue with the equalizer. It also turns out to solve a problem syncing some ringtones (see “The Case of the Unsynced Ringtones,” 11 November 2013). iTunes 11.1.3 is available as a direct download from Apple’s iTunes Web page or via Software Update. (Free, 221 MB)

Check out the Take Control ebooks that expand on the topic in this article:

In this FAQ-style ebook, iTunes expert Kirk McElhearn explains importing, tagging, organizing, playing, sharing, streaming, and more so you can get the most out of audio and video in iTunes 11, including podcasts and iTunes Radio. You'll also learn techniques for transferring media to an iPad, iPhone, or iPod.

The aim of this upgrade has failed to hit the target. The beach balls continue to spin for far too many minutes.
