President Obama Announces Low-Income Broadband Initiative

The Obama administration has announced a new initiative, called ConnectHome, that will bring broadband access to over 275,000 low-income households in the United States. A partnership with ISPs such as Google Fiber, CenturyLink, Cox Communications, and Sprint, the pilot program will start in 27 cities, including New York, Boston, Seattle, and the Choctaw Tribal Nation in Oklahoma. ConnectHome is being funded by private industry, nonprofit organizations and local leaders; the federal government will not be contributing any money beyond the $50,000 allocated by the Department of Agriculture to deploy broadband to the Choctaw Tribal Nation.favicon follow link
