Lodder <[email protected]> comments that in addition to Open Door Networks (see TidBITS-258), knoware, a Dutch non-profit foundation, has been providing dial-up Internet access via ARA for almost a year. The price is Dfl 5/hour = US$3/hour, or Dfl 700/year for unlimited access up to 28,800 bps, exclusive of local phone rates.

This method of providing Internet access is still uncommon, although it does make one wonder how many Internet providers would spring up using this method if Apple gave the ARA client software away for free and sold the server. [ACE]
