Mac OS X Zip Expanding Utility

Firefox (and possibly other applications) may ask you what you want to do with .zip archives that you download from the Internet. If you want to expand them with Mac OS X (rather than StuffIt Expander), you may be unsure of which application actually does the job. You're looking for Archive Utility (in Leopard and later) or BOMArchiveHelper (in Tiger). In either case, the application is stored in Hard Drive/System/Library/Core Services/. Don't move it from there, though, or you'll confuse matters.

Apologies

Send Article to a Friend

Apologies to Graphisoft Software and Graphsoft, Inc., the publishers of ArchiCAD and MiniCAD, respectively. In our "Power Macintosh Nativeware" article in TidBITS #217 we incorrectly listed both products as being from Graphisoft. Mark pleads our readers' and the companies' forgiveness; he was reading from a blurry photocopy of a fax while compiling his list! Thanks to an attentive Vittorio Dell'Aiuto <mc3520@mclink.it> for living up to his name (which means "help" in Italian) and helping us out!
