Mac OS X Zip Expanding Utility

Firefox (and possibly other applications) may ask you what you want to do with .zip archives that you download from the Internet. If you want to expand them with Mac OS X (rather than StuffIt Expander), you may be unsure of which application actually does the job. You're looking for Archive Utility (in Leopard and later) or BOMArchiveHelper (in Tiger). In either case, the application is stored in Hard Drive/System/Library/Core Services/. Don't move it from there, though, or you'll confuse matters.

Microsoft Publishes Wrong 800-number

Send Article to a Friend

In the "Oops" department this week, we've heard that Microsoft sent out a letter about upgrading Word to a bunch of customers. This letter listed an 800 number that people could call, but the number listed goes to a consultant who's a tad displeased to be receiving a lot of calls from Word users, especially since he pays for every call. It sounds like a Freudian slip for a company that has eschewed toll-free support for so long.
