TidBITS: Comments on Apple Enables icloud.com Addresses for me.com and mac.com Users

If you’ve been using either a me.com or a mac.com email address left over from MobileMe, Apple has now added the option of using the same user name with the icloud.com domain. No matter which address you use, you’ll continue to receive all your mail in the same way.

Honestly, no idea. It just appears magically, which says to me that Apple is doing something in the background. Are you running Lion or Mountain Lion with all updates applied, and with everything set up properly in the iCloud and Mail, Contacts, & Calendars preference panes?

No, I just verified by trying to log in at AIM on the Web that the icloud.com variant on my address does not work at all.

Also, I had suspected this but never confirmed, my AIM account at mac.com is NOT the same as the same username at me.com (different buddy lists, etc), though both use the same password.

So the practical upshot of this move with regard to AIM is... nothing new. ;-)
