I finally used Skype 2.8 briefly this evening and the Activity Monitor indicates that Skype is using between 79 and 91 percent of the CPU. I assume this is what is causing the computer to heat up to over 200 degrees; however, I don't have a clue on what I can do about it.

I'd recommend running Activity Monitor and watching Skype's CPU usage. It sounds like it's hammering the CPU and thus causing a lot of heat.

Still using 2.8 (only occasion use), but one thing I've noticed is that my laptop's temperature rises fairly rapidly 50-75 degrees even with the fan running. Is this normal?

The interface continues in the vein of all the versions in the last few years. So while it's not good, it also doesn't look like it's going to change.

In general, we're finding that Skype's call quality has dropped significantly over the past few months, to the point where it's unusual to have a long call not need to be restarted once or twice in the middle.
