Take Control of Apple TV, Chapter 10: Play Games on Apple TV
The Apple TV may not have been intended as a gaming device, but thanks to AirPlay Mirroring, the combination of an iOS device and an Apple TV can make for a surprisingly compelling gaming experience. In this chapter of the in-progress “Take Control of Apple TV,” Josh Centers describes some iOS games that are optimized for the Apple TV and offers some tips on how to reduce AirPlay latency.
Great chapter! Hadn't realised that there are games that not just mirror but take advantage of both iOS device and the TV in game enhancing ways.
Reduce AirPlay Latency
"To quit an app in iOS, double press the Home button to reveal background apps. Then, in iOS 6, tap the app’s X badge"
Seems to me that there is a step missing for force quit Apps on iOS 6 (but cannot test anymore).
IMHO you must tap n' hold an App in the dock to reveal the closing X badge.
Very helpful to understand how AirPlay works for Gaming. I always wondered how I could improve the connection.
btw, is streaming done the same way? e.g. YouTube??
or does AirPlay 'hand over' the Stream-URL to my TV ??
a) Server (Internet) -> Router -> iPad > [AirPlay] -> Router -> TV -> TV
b) /AirPlay controlled/: stream from Server (Internet) -> Router -> TV -> TV
