Avoid Naming Pear Note Files

If you create a lot of documents, coming up with a name for them can sometimes be a hassle. This is especially true now that search is becoming a more prevalent way to find documents. Pear Note provides a way to have the application automatically generate a filename so you can avoid this hassle. To use this:

  1. Open Saving under Pear Note's preferences.
  2. Select a default save location.
  3. Select a default save name template (Pear Note's help documents all the fields that can be automatically filled in).
  4. Check the box stating that Command-S saves without prompting.
  5. If you decide you want to name a particular note later, just use Save As... instead.

TidBITS Mail Hub Change: Check Your Filters

Send Article to a Friend

Late last week, as part of our continual upgrade plans, I threw the switch on an infrastructure change with our servers. In an attempt to reduce the effects of the constant onslaught of spam and to start removing myself from the never-ending task of administering email accounts for local users, I'm now routing incoming mail through a different server.

The practical upshot of this change is that the server we use to send the TidBITS, TidBITS Talk, and Take Control mailing lists may now identify itself explicitly as emperor.tidbits.com instead of just tidbits.com in various email headers. As a result, if you filter or whitelist email from tidbits.com, you may need to adjust things to pick up emperor.tidbits.com as well as tidbits.com.

Sorry for any inconvenience this causes!

As I poke at this more, I believe that the main header line that will change is the To line, which will now report itself as listname@emperor.tidbits.com instead of listname@tidbits.com.
