DealBITS Discount: Save 50% on Tonx Coffee
Congratulations to Alan Ullman at fuse.net, Beth Arsenault at earthlink.net, and Kimberly McKean at earthlink.net, whose entries were chosen randomly in the last DealBITS drawing, and who each received a 12-ounce bag of Tonx coffee (a $19 value). But don’t let your inner coffee fiend fret too much if you didn’t win, since Tonx is offering new TidBITS customers a 50-percent-off discount on a 6-ounce bag of coffee beans.
To take advantage of this offer, which drops the $15 (non-subscription) list price to $7, use this special link to purchase from Tonx (note that Tonx ships only to the United States and Canada at the moment, though if you’re in another country, you can let them know you’re interested at [email protected]). Thanks to the 335 people who entered this DealBITS drawing, and we hope you’ll continue to
participate in the future!
So now we have advertisements for coffee on TidBITS. I quietly ignored the first one. Is this coffee crafted by Apple ? What's next?
Yeah, I know, it's not an advertisement, it's a Public Service Announcement/your marketing term here. And I fully recognize that it's your publication, and you can promote peppermint-flavored condoms on it if you so choose. Still, it feels just like the advertisements-everywhere situation that the entire medium (not just TidBITS) is turning into. A disappointment, to say the least...
Sorry you feel that way David, but we've ran DealBITS promotions for years, and this is actually the first one we've done since 2011.
It's not strictly Apple related, but Tonx frequently advertises with other Apple-related outlets, so we thought our readers might be interested. And yes, this is a paid promotion by Tonx, but things like this help keep the lights on here at TidBITS. We don't do obnoxious pop-ups or click-throughs like other sites have resorted to.
I'm a paying customer of Tonx. and I can say in all honesty that it is a great service. No one paid me to say that.
Right. Well, in my own little way (though I'm certainly not as lucretive as your Tonx "paid promotion"), I also do my financial bit to "keep the lights on here at TidBITS". And I'm gladdened to hear that you did not personally profit from the publication of this advertisement :-/
Further, I wouldn't object if this were clearly identified as a "paid promotion", or if it appeared in the "Sponsored by (or whatever the verbage is)" section of TidBITS. And I'm certainly gratified to hear your assertion that this TidBITS ad is not as "obnoxious ... like other sites have resorted to". At least you're not winning the race to the bottom. Yet. Beyond that, my original comments (as a paid supporter) stand.
Sorry to disappoint, David, but the simple fact is that we need to keep the lights on and the servers running. The TidBITS membership program - thanks for being a part of that! - has been essential in helping us keep going, but it hasn't been so successful that we've been able to turn down other sources of revenue. I wish it were otherwise.
DealBITS is something we've done for many years, and it's always commercial - something is given away in a drawing, and those who don't win receive a discount. It's not a straight ad, by any means, and we don't accept just anything.
The six ounce package is $12 shipped, but the website for half price comes out $7. Somebody has a screwed up calculator.
I will pass. The article is incorrect by saying $6 and half off.
Sorry Steve, it was my mistake. I spoke with the folks at Tonx, and $15 is the usual non-subscription price, which I didn't realize existed. I had calculated it at the $12 subscription price.
I do hope you give them a shot with a free trial. It's great coffee and a great service.
