Apple Maps Now Displays COVID-19 Testing Sites
Apple Maps in iOS and iPadOS can now show you locations in the United States (including Puerto Rico) where you can be tested for COVID-19. To see those testing sites, tap the search field to bring up Recent Searches and Search Nearby. The first item under Search Nearby is COVID-19 Testing, which you can tap to see testing sites on the map.
Unfortunately, where I am in Tennessee, none of the state’s free testing sites show on the map. Instead, it shows only various hospitals and doctors’ offices. Let us know in the comments what sort of results it shows you and whether or not they’re helpful.
Here in my part of the Bay Area it seems to be exactly the other way around. Maps shows public testing facilities at two large local hospitals, but there is no mention of a private clinic right next door in Richmond offering tests to anybody willing to pay for it out of pocket.
6 days later and Apple Map’s doesn’t show county and state health department operated drive through testing locations… it seems Apple is slow on the updates or more these entities don’t share that data in an accessible form themselves. Reporting the issue doesn’t seem possible in the app as it treats the location as a dropped pin so you can’t report an issue.
