Apple Releases iOS 4.3 in Advance of iPad 2
Apple has released iOS 4.3, bringing improvements such as improved AirPlay performance, iPhone Personal Hotspot, iTunes Home Sharing, and, at long last, the option to configure the iPad’s side switch to either lock screen rotation or mute audio. See “Apple Previews New Features in iOS 4.3 ” (2 March 2011) for more details on what’s included in the update.
iOS 4.3 runs on the iPad, iPhone 4 (but only the GSM model), iPhone 3GS, and the third- and fourth-generation iPod touch. To update your device, connect it to your computer, select it in the sidebar in iTunes, and click the Check for Update button.
An iOS 4.2 software update to the Apple TV is required for new AirPlay features to work, which is also now available. On the Apple TV, go to Settings > General > Update Software.
Interesting side-note: the firmware for the iPhone 4 is 80MB larger (669.8 MB) than the one for the Wi-Fi iPad 1 (596.9 MB). Also, I didn't have to click Check for Update: iTunes immediately offered me the new version when I connected my iPad.
Not True! My iTunes says 4.2 is most recent. I called Apple and they said it will not be released until Friday. Please correct!
Keep checking. Since it just appeared, I wouldn't be surprised if Apple is rolling it out gradually so their servers aren't overwhelmed. But I can verify that I just updated my iPad and iPhone 4 to iOS 4.3.
My iTunes never said 4.3 was available until Friday, the 11th.
Thanks! I'm downloading it now. I had no Idea!
