Postbox 4.0.1
Postbox has issued version 4.0 of its eponymous email client with a modernized look, plus added support for Dropbox, Box, and OneDrive via the Cloud Sharing Add-on. Postbox improves the Focus Pane with the addition of more attributes and the capability to simultaneously select multiple attributes, topics, contacts, and/or dates. The release also introduces the Quick Bar, which enables you to drop signatures, topics, standardized responses, and more into a message (press Command-L to bring it up), a Domain Fencing feature that can warn you if you’re sending an email to a recipient from the wrong account, a new Composition Goals feature that can
tell you if you’ve hit a specified word or character count, a full HTML editor for the Compose window, and support for custom quote colors. Shortly after this release, Postbox updated the email app to version 4.0.1 to disable older language pack add-ons, fix an issue with accessing iPhoto menus, and fix errors that could occur when deleting an account. While there is no upgrade pricing available, those who purchased Postbox 3 on or after 20 November 2014 have a license key that will work with Postbox 4. I would be curious to hear peoples' impressions of the new PostBox. I am a Mailplane user and like it, but I'm always interested in the possibility of a true complete native client. Apple Mail unfortunately has lots of problems. Lately it is the "crash to login" bug talked about in the Apple forums. So I keep going back to Mailplane for reliability. But I'm curious about PostBox.
Thanks,

As a former Eudora user, I find Postbox to be sorely lacking in search, sort and mailbox manipulation. But that's true of just about any email app I've ever tested since those glorious days.
Frankly, I don't need any of the new stuff that Postbox offers in this upgrade. I guess I'm just old fashioned.
I continue to pray to the email gods to please resurrect my long lost saviour, Eudora.. (but do add multiple accounts, please..!)
After about 20 years with Eudora, I migrated to Postbox in January of 2014, and have been very satisfied. There are a few quirks and annoyances (including the search shortcomings mentioned in Sam Bharr's reply), but the program has been stable and easy to use. The interface is clean, and I have no major complaints.
I am surprised to be reading of this update because my Postbox preference settings are "Automatically check for updates" and "When updates to Postbox are found, Ask me what I want to do" -- and yet this is the first I've heard of version 4.x (so thanks, TidBITS!).

Well for $15 it's amazing what one can get these days. In that sense it's fantastic. However, I have to compare it to the free alternatives of Apple Mail and Thunderbird which I also use. I was hoping I could drop at least one of them for PostBox. I don't think I will. I used it religiously for several weeks and the net is about the same. A few things are better but others are not. It is more stable than Mail but so is Thunderbird. I find it to be slightly less intuitive for me than those two and that's probably my biggest complain. I feel less efficient even after using it for a while. Setup and install were clean. Search is effectively the same. I suspect there is more to this program than the others but I'm guessing it would take a lot more time in the tutorials to learn it. It's a good email app but I find it to be comparable to the other two.
