Adobe Acrobat X Pro and Reader X 10.1.3
Adobe has updated Acrobat X Pro and Adobe Reader X to version 10.1.3, which resolves their associated PDF browser plug-in’s incompatibility with Safari 5.1 (when running in 64-bit mode). The plug-in now also supports Firefox in 32-bit mode. Additionally, Adobe’s EchoSign electronic signature service is further integrated into the two apps with the addition of new electronic signature types and the capability to send documents through EchoSign. The update also fixes a number of bugs from the previous release’s known issues, including print preferences defaulting to printing on both sides of the paper and crashes when
trying to print in Protected Mode. For a complete rundown of all improvements and fixes in 10.1.3, download the PDF release notes from Adobe’s support page. ($449 new purchase of Acrobat X Pro with free update, free Adobe Reader X, 137.4 MB and 69.6 MB respectively)
The update did one unfriendly thing. I had Firefox set to "Save File" for PDF documents. The update changed that setting to "Use Adobe Acrobat NPAPI...". When I clicked a PDF link, a new tab opened, and nothing was displayed. Took me a while to figure out how to change it back to Save File.
HOW DID YOU DO IT? IT'S DRIVING ME CRAZY. I THOUGHT IT WAS A BUG.
Thanks for the news... I was having the same problem.
If you don't want the Adobe Acrobat PDF plug-in at all, you can delete the file. It's located at:
/Library/Internet Plug-Ins/AdobePDFViewerNPAPI.plugin
(That's the top-level Library folder, not the one in your user account.)
I don't yet know if there's a way to get Firefox to save PDFs to files but let other Web browsers use the plug-in - deleting the file removes it from other browsers too.
crashes when printing anything on my mac. and they call it an update.
