Boom 2 v1.4
Global Delight has released version 1.4 of its Boom 2 volume booster and equalizer app with a few key fixes. The update resolves a bug that caused distorted audio for some users, enables you to replace the default equalizer presets with your own, and fixes an issue that caused audio to mute in and out when using the Mac’s dictation feature. Will Boom improve/enhance the sound when playing movies from my itunes library to my Apple TV 4? Currently I have to crank the volume on the TV ( a brand new LG) up to almost max (100).
I really doubt it. Are you playing the movies in iTunes via Home Sharing on the Apple TV, or by playing them in iTunes on the Mac, and using AirPlay to send them to the Apple TV? If the latter, the volume setting on the Mac might come into play.
I have a Mac mini connected to my TV screen via HDMI (so somewhat same usage case, but different details). I find that Boom provides two good capabilities
- it allows me to modulate the HDMI volume by modulating the Mac volume. (God knows why but Apple does not do that, even though it's trivial to do.)
- it does provide the louder, appropriately companded signal that it promises.
But there is, unfortunately, a bug (still present as of version 1.4). After long usage (say around a week) there's some sort of internal resource leakage, and at some point the sound just stops playing (or more precisely the last second or so just repeats indefinitely). The only way to fix this appears to be to quit Boom2 and restart. This is definitely irritating, but not so irritating that it prevents me from using it.
I like what Boom 2 produces, but I recently uninstalled because of multiple problems with my iMac 5K. Oftentimes, the computer won't sleep well, but the major issue is with it's usage. I found I have to reset/reinstall/disable/re-enable in order to get it to work after awakening from sleep. The freakiest issue was a continuous 6-second loop of the last sound bit after closing the source! Weird, but made me laugh after I figured out what was causing the issue.
I haven't contacted their support group, but I would assume these issues are reproduceable.
