Firefox 4
Mozilla has released Firefox 4. The upgrade sports a revamped user interface and runs atop the Gecko 2.0 engine. According to Mozilla, that means it’s up to six times faster at running JavaScript than the previous version of the browser, and now offers vastly improved support for HTML5 and CSS3. Firefox now supports the Do Not Track header, enables Firefox Sync by default, supports Google’s WebM video format, and handles plug-in crashes more gracefully. Lengthy release notes are available at Mozilla’s Web site. Note that Firefox 4
requires Mac OS X 10.5 Leopard or higher, running on an Intel-based Mac (those who are still running 10.4 Tiger or with PowerPC-based Macs should stick with Firefox 3.6) (Free, 26.8 MB)
After D/L firefox 4.0, I get a window that says I already have a newer version (3.6.16) installed. Also, have not been able to get Firefox to reply to any questio or email. WHAT'S UP ?
I'd try downloading Firefox 4 again, and be sure to replace the old Firefox app in your Applications folder. Sounds like you might have multiple copies installed.
Adam: Thanks for your reply-- I have talked to you on phone about your book for iPhoto
I have D/L ed 4.0 3 times now, and always the same answer-- " do you want to download this older version, you have 3.6.16 installed which is a newer version"
I have a .jpg on my desktop of this window and can send it if you tell me how.
My computers are-- MacBook Pro OS 10.6.7, and this iMac OS 10.6.7 , all apps and files are up to date as per TeckTracker except Firefox 4.0.
This iMac has Office 2011, and Aperture 2.1.3 installed.
I have tried to red comments in Firefox help, and do find a few about this very same problem -- BUT no replies to any of them. And as I stated above, 3 emails to Firefox and Mozella but no replies to date.
So that's my story now, and I'm sticking to it!
Thanks-- John Horigan
You should mention that Firefox 4 is Intel ONLY. For PPC, you need to either stay at the last version 3.6.16, or move to the open source TenFourFox from http://www.floodgap.com/software/tenfourfox/
A good point, thanks. I have a longer review coming soon...
Version 4. seems to require Leopard or higher. This unhappy Tiger had to delete and reinstall version 3.
Yes, it does - I'll update the article for these system requirements (should have caught that in editing, but I was sick yesterday).
