Mailplane 3.2
Uncomplex has released Mailplane 3.2 with a variety of improvements to the Gmail-specific email client. The update now enables you to edit an attachment and then send the edited document in a reply. It also adds support for inline images (added via drag-and-drop, pasting, or using the Mail > Insert command), automatically detects the correct inbox type setting for your notifier (and ensures the tab count and notifier are always in sync), adds support for custom notification sounds, ensures that new email generated from Safari’s Email This Page no longer truncates the URL, and avoids a crash when uploading an image in Hangout Chat. ($24.95 new, free update, 17.3 MB, release notes, 10.7+)
I like Mailplane. I've been using it since the Mavericks/Apple Mail fiasco. I'm glad for the update, but really wish they would add a "resend" feature. It should be so simple for them to do!
I've long wanted the equivalent of Eudora's Redirect as well, but I don't believe it's something Mailplane can really do, because it essentially involves forging the email headers, which Gmail doesn't provide access to. If Mailplane were downloading messages and sending them via IMAP, it would be much more possible, and I suppose it's conceivable that it could tack on such a feature by doing that kind of hack, but it feels iffy and would be a lot of work for the Mailplane developers, since they'd have to write a chunk of an IMAP client for one feature.
We're aware of that request and it is on our list.
As Adam explained, implementing it properly (forging email headers) doesn't fit well with our approach (non IMAP). I don't really like it but more likely will be a "Doing a forward and adjusting the message" workaround. But no promises, yet.
I also like and use Mailplane.
If the comments are appropriate for a feature request, I would add a desire (that would be simple to add, I suspect), it would be a link to the Gmail "Cheat Sheet" so that when one wants to search within a Gmail account via Mailplane, the user can readily get the full set of commands. The English language link is this: https://support.google.com/mail/answer/7190?hl=en.
I'll ping the developers to alert them about this. :-) I'd also like something to remind me about all the keyboard shortcuts (press ? when not in a text field in Gmail).
Thanks for your request. I like it! We could add it to our Help menu below the Google Help item. Feel free to send us future requests directly to [email protected].
