Microsoft Office 2011 14.2.2 and 2008 12.3.3
Microsoft has released Microsoft Office 2011 14.2.2 and Office 2008 12.3.3, both of which fix “extremely important issues” and improve overall security. In particular, the updates patch vulnerabilities that an attacker can use to overwrite the contents of your computer’s memory with malicious code. (Free updates as a download from the Office for Mac Web site or through Microsoft AutoUpdate, 110 MB/218 MB)
Thanks for this alert. I think the link for Office 2008 is wrong, and should be:
Oops, yes, thanks. Fixed.
An error message appears after selecting the install volume: "Office 2011 14.2.2 Update can't be installed on this disk. A version of the software required to install this update was not found on this volume." This also happened with the 14.2.1 update. Updating via MacUpdate Desktop works around the problem.
I got the same error message. After I moved the folder back from a subfolder to Applications, it worked just fine
This lovely update caused me to "lose" an install. I had to re register the program after the update. Microsoft said to contact them if it proved to be a problem in the future. This was on a Mac Pro, my Macbook Pro updated without any problem.
Outlook 14.2.2 is still not playing ball well with Gmail IMAP.
Moving a message to another mailbox (or Gmail's Trash) generates a second spurious copy of the message in All Mail. Each subsequent move of the message creates yet another spurious copy.
It also will not let me rename a Gmail IMAP folder. After selecting 'Rename Folder', the normal highlighted text box shows but reverts before you have time to make changes.
Selecting a mailbox and pressing Command-Delete moves the whole mailbox and its messages to what looks like the Gmail Trash, but is not regarded as being within Trash by Gmail, which treats it as a separate Label.
These problems do not occur with Exchange Accounts.
Gmail does IMAP a bit weirdly, but it's still surprising that such things would have slipped past testing.
