Easier Than Upgrading a PC
Connectix has released the Virtual PC 1.0.1 Updater. The new version makes Virtual PC easier to use, fixes bugs, and should make gamers happy with improved game support. (Anyone comparing Virtual PC 1.0 to Insignia’s recently released Real PC
should note the changes in 1.0.1.) According to Connectix, the new version offers faster floppy disk access and makes it simpler to use Virtual PC with multiple operating systems. Potential improvements for game playing include the ability to turn off FM sounds, which should speed some games, especially on slower Macs; a MOUSE.COM driver for use under DOS; better joystick support under Windows 95; SoundBlaster emulation under Windows NT; and a longer list of supported games. Other notable fixes include better support for Ethernet adapters and printing. The ReadMe file also lists workarounds and updates that make Virtual PC work better. The updater is about a 3 MB download and comes in different versions for Windows 3.11 and Windows 95.
