Avoid Simple Typos

If, like me, you find yourself typing 2911 in place of 2011 entirely too often, you can have Mac OS X (either Lion or Snow Leopard) fix such typos for you automatically. Just open the Language & Text pane of System Preferences, click the Text button at the top, and then add a text substitution by clicking the + button underneath the list. It won't work everywhere (for that you'll want a utility like Smile's TextExpander), but it should work in applications like Pages and TextEdit, and in Save dialog boxes.

Free BBEdit 5.0.2 Update Available -- Bare Bones Software has released a BBEdit 5.0.2 update, free to registered owners of BBEdit 5.0 or 5.0.1. The 5.0.2 update rolls BBEdit's FTP client into the main application, and includes a number of fixes to BBEdit and its HTML tools, along with support for nestable include files and the capability to select multiple items in many of BBEdit's browser windows. The update, which Bare Bones recommends for all BBEdit 5 users, is a 1.9 MB download. [GD]
