Apple Releases G3 Power Macs
Today, Apple unveiled the Power Macintosh G3 series and the PowerBook G3, which sport the new PowerPC 750 chip, more commonly known as the G3. Apple also announced the Multiple Scan Display 720, a new 16-inch monitor. None of these machines break new barriers for innovative industrial design or features, but they do offer increased performance due to the new chip, backside cache, new logic board design, and faster system bus. Each Power Macintosh G3 model uses an identical logic board; different features are made available through a daughtercard containing the CPU and other unique elements. As a result, Apple can more efficiently handle the custom orders likely to pour in through Apple’s new online store. Apple has made information and product sheets available through its Products page.
