HTML Markup Highlights BBEdit 5.0

Bare Bones Software has released BBEdit 5.0, featuring several enhancements that improve the text editor’s already strong HTML, multi-file searching, and new JavaScript and Perl syntax coloring features. Using the new Tag Maker and Edit Tag commands, BBEdit helps users streamline the Web coding process by providing context-sensitive tagging options. A new SGML (Standardized General Markup Language) parser has been added, improving the HTML syntax checking feature. The new version also adds a Set Menu Keys command to create keyboard shortcuts for common tasks. BBEdit 5.0 carries a $120 suggested retail price; owners of BBEdit Lite or competing Web authoring utilities (such as PageMill or GoLive CyberStudio) can crossgrade for $80. Owners of BBEdit 2.5 and later can upgrade for $40 (plus shipping and handling) direct from Bare Bones Software; owners who purchased BBEdit 4.5 after 01-Aug-98, or who bought Dreamweaver (which includes BBEdit) on or after 06-Nov-98, can receive a free upgrade. A 2.6 MB demo is also available from the company’s Web site.
