Early Days of Ping Disappoint

Among the significant announcements at Apple’s recent special media event was Ping, a social networking service for music that’s built into iTunes and the iTunes Store. In some ways, Ping has a huge head start on other social networking services, thanks to the 160 million users of the iTunes Store. But since Ping is Apple’s first foray into modern-day social networking, it’s clearly an immature attempt that’s both feeling its way and dealing with what must be onerous licensing restrictions from the music labels.
