I think the New York Times in this instance has gone for what will get the most readers, and that is, "controversy and Apple".

I added this link mostly because it was starting to be a popular topic of discussion at Macworld | iWorld. But yes, controversy and Apple definitely garner attention.
I do think it is an important discussion to be had. I was being a bit sarcastic I suppose, Booth Babes garnering a much larger commenting response from readers. Also, valid to point out the questionable reporting of this issue by the New York Times, framing it as an Apple problem and not an industry wide issue, so I appreciate you linking to this.
