CPR for Your Dead iPhone

One morning my wife woke me up saying that her iPhone was dead, despite its having charged overnight. Figuring it was just turned off, or maybe had a dead battery, I plugged it in, held down the Sleep/Wake button and… nothing.

I stifled my urge to panic and began searching online for a solution, and I found one thanks to user Lawrence Finch at Apple’s Support Communities.

If your iPhone won’t turn on, try this:

  1. Toggle the Ring/Silent switch twice.

  2. Press and hold the Home and Sleep/Wake buttons at the same time until the Apple logo appears.

I confess that I have no idea how it works, but it did in this case.

If that doesn’t work, then try different cables and chargers, and failing that, there’s always the Genius Bar.
