Apple Devices Targeted by the CIA
The Intercept has received top secret documents that show that the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) has spent years trying to infiltrate Apple devices. Tactics attempted by the CIA include modifying Xcode to place vulnerabilities in apps, modifying OS X’s Software Update mechanism to install keyloggers, and attempting to extract iPhone Group ID keys by analyzing the devices’ electromagnetic emissions. It’s unknown how effective the CIA’s techniques have been.
Does "trying to infiltrate" mean that the CIA has not done so? What does Apple think happened, or not happened?
Apple isn't talking. From The Intercept: "The documents do not address how successful the targeting of Apple’s encryption mechanisms have been, nor do they provide any detail about the specific use of such exploits by U.S. intelligence."
We know what they've claimed they can do, not specifically what they have done, if anything.
