iFixit’s Apple Watch Teardown
A new Apple product hasn’t officially arrived until the boffins at iFixit tear it apart and document every component — which they now have. This probably won’t come as a surprise, but the Apple Watch isn’t easy to repair. And the idea of upgradeable watches can be put to rest: you have to tear the entire watch apart to reach the S1 chip.
Not sure upgrades are entirely put to rest. If I wanted to upgrade a $17,000 watch I might be willing to rip out all the electronics and simply replace them lock stock and barrel for a few hundred dollars, the value of the sport watch.
I'm willing to bet that if you can spend $17,000 on a watch, you probably won't care to do it again in a couple of years.
I disagree. Based my personal experience rich people are more thrifty than you might expect especially if they weren't born to wealth. Plus, not every one who buys a gold watch is a billionaire who treats $10,000 items as disposable.
I'm not sure how widespread it will be but if the next gen watch internals will fit in the current watch case it will be a thing.
