iOS 26.5.1 Fixes Charging Bug, macOS 26.5.1 Tackles Shutdown Issue
Apple has released iOS 26.5.1 and macOS 26.5.1 Tahoe, each with a single, focused bug fix:
- iOS 26.5.1 fixes a problem that prevented a small number of iPhone 17 and iPhone Air users from charging via a USB cable when the battery is nearly depleted. A bug that blocks charging precisely when you need it most is worth squashing with alacrity. If you’re using an iPhone 17 or iPhone Air, I recommend updating soon.
- macOS 26.5.1 resolves an issue for enterprise users where M5-based Macs could unexpectedly shut down when using certain content-filtering network extensions. This may seem like an obscure bug, but it’s a serious problem for anyone using those content-filtering extensions. Nevertheless, users whose Macs aren’t managed by an enterprise system need not waste their time updating.
Neither update contains any security fixes, and Apple hasn’t released corresponding updates for iPadOS, watchOS, tvOS, or visionOS.
