ClamXav 2.2.1
Mark Allan has released ClamXav 2.2.1, a minor update to the free virus-checking software. The most significant change in this release is the correction of several scheduling bugs that were affecting Mac OS X 10.4 Tiger users. According to Allan, this is also the last update for Tiger users, who are now advised to turn off automatic updates, although they will continue to receive new virus definitions. ClamXav 2.2.1 — though not the version available from the Mac App Store — now also launches its Sentry background virus checker immediately when the user asks it to do so in the settings panel. The latest vers of ClamXav is 2.2.1, not 2.1.1.
The vers of ClamXav in the app store is Lite. To get into the store (comply with Apple's machinations), Mark had to cripple the product by removing functionality - like Sentry! People that get it from the store really should go get the full app from Mark's site.
Yes, it seems rather pointless to get it from the Mac App Store because of the crippled functionality. But I suppose it's good to get exposure.
Didn't you mean version 2.2.1? The web site shows a download button for 2.2.1 and my copy (which updated automatically last time I launched) also shows a 2.2.1.
Just sayin....
Yes, thanks - just an off-by-one mistake while juggling too many version numbers. Ironically, the filename in our CMS was right. Fixed.
This program still has problems with scheduling its task. It uses its own cron scripts instead of launchd for updating virus definitions. There are also some other inconsistencies in using the clamav software, it installs. Although I like this software and appreciate the work of its author, it needs some improvements.
