Bookends 15.2.4

Sonny Software has released Bookends 15.2.4, introducing dynamic integration of notes and PDF annotations in Mellel’s just-released Citation Inspector (see “Mellel 6.6,” 15 January 2026). This feature includes formatted metadata (created with a dedicated format called Mellel.fmt), notes (displayed as notecards), and the text of annotations made to any attached PDFs. Live hypertext deep links enable you to immediately jump to the reference or a specific PDF annotation in Bookends from Mellel.

The reference management tool also adds a new setting that allows apps like ChronoSync to make backups of the iCloud Bookends folder, improves attaching PDFs in a single batch (checking to see each PDF has a unique identifier and if the reference is already in Bookends), speeds up importing of EndNote XML records, resolves an issue that prevented Bookends from launching in macOS 13 Ventura and macOS 14 Sonoma, and fixes a bug that prevented Bookends from opening a library on Intel-based Macs running macOS 26 Tahoe.
