SoundSource 5.7.1
Rogue Amoeba has issued SoundSource 5.7.1, a maintenance release for the recently upgraded audio control utility. The update brings a few substantial improvements for Bluetooth audio devices, reducing latency to Bluetooth devices by several hundred milliseconds, eliminating audio drops that occurred after playing and pausing audio, and ensuring redirection of app-specific audio works as expected. The release also ensures app-specific audio being routed to the system’s default output can be correctly adjusted with digital volume control and effects processing, no longer captures the output of SoundID (which allows both apps to be used in harmony), and refines the metering settings. You must run macOS Sonoma or later to install this update. This means that several desired items such as Mail Plugins are eliminated after Ventura resulting and partially disabling features in such Apps as HoudahSpot and DevonThink. To the best of my knowledge Apple has not so far provided any solutions or workarounds for these issues.
There have been multiple reports of various issues with SS 5.7.1 in a forum I follow, Audio Science Review. In my case it breaks AudioMIDI and REW (Room EQ Wizard). I cannot output sound on any channel other than left and right to my AVR over HDMI when Sound Source is running. Quit SoundSource and all works as before. Never had any problems with previous versions (I only updated when moving to Sequoia).
