SoundSource 5.7.5

In mid-November, Rogue Amoeba released SoundSource 5.7.4 with full support for macOS 15 Sequoia. The audio control utility improves compatibility with Rogue Amoeba’s Loopback audio routing app, resolves issues that caused interface sound effects and VoiceOver audio to be slightly clipped, fixes a crash that could occur when a device changed its configuration, optimizes CPU usage to avoid spikes when showing or hiding SoundSource, and improves handling of apps using audio devices in exclusive mode, though macOS 15.1 Sequoia is recommended for the best results.

Rogue Amoeba subsequently released SoundSource 5.7.5 with version 12.1 of the ARK plug-in to improve audio capture with the company’s Airfoil, Audio Hijack, and Piezo apps by allowing them to get audio first. The update also correctly activates input metering when SoundSource’s main window is closed, disables its audio processing when another app is capturing system audio to avoid doubled audio playback, correctly excludes apps and their sub-processes, properly turns off input metering when quitting SoundSource, and no longer negatively affects VoiceOver readings when changing the latency setting. ($39 new with a 20% discount for TidBITS members, free update, 42.3 MB, release notes, macOS 14.5+)
