SoundSource 5.8.7
Rogue Amoeba has issued SoundSource 5.8.7 with workarounds for bugs in macOS 26 Tahoe and an update to the ARK plug-in, which powers SoundSource’s audio handling. The audio control utility now stops processing audio in problematic configurations to avoid issues found in the initial release of Tahoe, and a new “Auto-adjust device sample rates to avoid Tahoe bugs” hidden setting has been added. Rogue Amoeba recommends leaving it on so SoundSource will automatically adjust sample rates to avoid lost audio caused by a bug in Tahoe.
The release also updates ARK to version 12.3 with small improvements to audio handling, correctly becomes the active application when the Show SoundSource global hotkey is used, addresses a gradual memory leak triggered by device updates, and fixes a bug where VoiceOver would incorrectly say “currentudio device” instead of “current audio device.” ($45 new with a 20% discount for TidBITS members, free update, 37.8 MB, release notes, macOS 14.5+)
I use SoundSource mostly for equalizing audio because of a hearing loss problem I have. This makes listening to voices and music enjoyable or at least tolerable for me. I just wish that I could transfer the custom setting I have created to my iPhone. If anyone knows how, please share that with me.
I do it the other way around. I took the hearing test on my iPhone and use it on my Mac. These days—since macOS 15 Sequoia—you don’t need SoundSource to do some of that. YMMV.
Here’s my audiogram. I need to do a new hearing test soon with AirPods Pro 3.
