Zoom Workplace 6.2.6
Zoom released Zoom Workplace 6.2.5 with the updated AI Companion 2.0, which lets users ask questions and receive responses from different Zoom-connected data sources (currently supported in the Zoom Workplace desktop app only). The videoconferencing app is starting to enable AV1 video codec support for Enterprise accounts, adds new keyboard shortcuts for in-meeting chat, enables the Record Computer Audio option by default when starting a new recording in Zoom Clips, and enables bulk pasting of emails to add members to group chats and shared spaces. Zoom followed this up with version 6.2.6 to resolve an issue where the screenshot function in Team Chat was not working correctly and fix a bug that caused the meeting reminder pop-up to reappear after being dismissed. Belatedly discovered that it is far too easy to give away remote control of a Mac via Zoom dating back at least through Zoom Workplace 6.2.5 and continuing through the most current version (as of May 1, 2025): Zoom Workplace 6.3.1.
It’s even documented in Zoom Support:
… Although that article doesn’t mention that the request for remote control can be made to look as if it comes from the Zoom app itself (if the remote user temporarily changes their session name to “Zoom”). Nor does it mention how complete that remote control can be, executing whatever code the remote controller provides.
This is currently being used by scammers who talk you into a (bogus) job interview. At some point they’ll request remote control of the Zoom session. Don’t do it! Prevent it in advance by making sure Zoom access on your Mac is denied in Settings > Privacy and Security > Accessibility
