Explaining the Latest Online Scams on CCATP

In a recent Chit Chat Across the Pond podcast, Allison Sheridan and I unpacked several pernicious scams I had documented in “Beware of Copyright Infringement Link Insertion Scams” (13 November 2024) and “Beware Obituary Scam Sites and Fake iPhone Security Warnings” (6 December 2024). I don’t want to encourage paranoia, but I became aware of these scams only because several TidBITS readers—far from digital naifs—reached out to confirm if what they were encountering was genuine. You don’t need to be Sherlock Holmes to spot the red flags raised by these scams, but it’s clear that scammers are continually refining their tactics, making vigilance more critical than ever.
