OS 26.0.1 Updates Fix Early Bugs
Apple has released small updates across its operating system lineup to fix early bugs that came to light after the official launch of the OS 26 upgrades:
- macOS 26.0.1: Apple says that the update resolves the problem that prevented some users from upgrading to Tahoe on the M3 Ultra Mac Studio (see “macOS 26 Tahoe Won’t Install on the M3 Ultra Mac Studio,” 17 September 2025).
- iOS 26.0.1: This update fixes Wi-Fi and Bluetooth dropouts on the iPhone 17, iPhone Air, and iPhone 17 Pro, suggesting an issue with Apple’s new N1 wireless chip. It resolves a problem that prevented some iPhone users from connecting to a cellular network after upgrading to iOS 26. The newly released iPhone models apparently had an issue with artifacts in photos taken under certain lighting conditions; Apple has now squashed that bug. The update corrects a problem that caused app icons to appear blank after applying a Liquid Glass tint. Finally, it addresses an issue that caused VoiceOver to become disabled for some users after updating to iOS 26.
- iPadOS 26.0.1: Besides fixing the VoiceOver bug, iPadOS 26.0.1 also prevents the floating keyboard from unexpectedly changing positions.
- watchOS 26.0.2: watchOS is slightly out of step with the others, due to a 26.0.1 update exclusively for the Apple Watch Ultra 3. The release notes don’t specify what changed beyond the usual “bug fixes and important security updates.”
- tvOS 26.0.1: It addresses an issue where audio could be out of sync on certain video streaming apps.
- visionOS 26.0.1: Apple hasn’t yet updated the online release notes.
- HomePod Software 26.0.1: Apple says only that the update includes “performance and stability improvements.”
Some of these updates also fix a single vulnerability in FontParser, where processing a maliciously crafted font on a Mac, iPhone, iPad, or Vision Pro could lead to unexpected app termination or corrupt process memory. Operating systems updated specifically to address this vulnerability include:
- macOS 26.0.1 Tahoe
- macOS 15.7.1 Sequoia
- macOS 14.8.1 Sonoma
- iOS 26.0.1 and iPadOS 26.0.1
- iOS 18.7.1 and iPadOS 18.7.1
- visionOS 26.0.1
If you have already upgraded to the OS 26 versions of any of Apple’s operating systems, I recommend installing the updates immediately—the bug fixes are helpful, even if the FontParser vulnerability doesn’t require urgent action. Those still using earlier versions of macOS, iOS, and iPadOS should install security updates at their convenience; the vulnerability isn’t being exploited in the wild.
Mac Version 26.01 of Safari, which was loaded as part of the Tahoe upgrade, reset my preferred Download folder from my specified folder to the default Downloads Folder. I reset it back to my prefereed folder.
I experienced several oddities in the iOS 26.0.1 update. The initial screen was set back to the “Welcome” (in various languages), and a couple more setup related items (which I failed to note). But with a few taps on some obvious choices presented, I was back in business. Weird, but of no real consequence.
I’m doing it! I’m upgrading from Sequoia after 117 continuous days of no downtime. I made sure my backups were all up-to-date.
….
Seems I never submitted the comment.
But it was still here after upgrading! Cool. Took about 45 minutes including download. No real problems so far. Looks nice.
I updated 2 iphones last night. I thought I was just installing the 18.7.1 security update but did not pay attention during the process. So one phone is now on 26.0.1 and the other is on 18.7.1.
Both seem to be working smoothly but I would have preferred to wait for iOS26.
With the iOS26 update it was irritating to a get a “hello” screen that was already cycling through different languages - with no obvious way to get back to english. I ended powered down and restarting the iPhone. Then had to go through the set-up questions. Luckily I wasn’t in a hurry to get out the door.
Update: Just got a prompt on the iPhone to load a Terms & Conditions app (!) in order to update my watch OS. Another delay getting out the door
It’s too bad that this is not clear, but you do not need to wait. It will continue to use the language that you’ve been using all along, not the one displayed on the welcome screen.
I used to wonder about this, but a little experimentation a year or two ago indeed showed that it doesn’t matter, as @ddmiller has said. Just charge ahead!
Yes - but a little alarming to see the same welcome page as when setting up a new iPhone.
Just encountered another irritating issue. I rarely use the Music app on the iPhone but nearly always with Carplay. When I tried to play music in Carplay I got a prompt that I have to accept T&C using the iPhone Music app when I am not driving. Luckily I wasn’t starting a long trip. Also I needed to restart the iPhone in order for Carplay Music to work without crashing Carplay. Grrr!
Kinda sorta looks like these are released into the wild by schedule, not by when it’s ready. Think I’ll wait for all the .1 versions… and when I have no pending need of using any device, and have several hours to look thru all the settings and turn off everything that was turned on, etc…
Still slow and not tempted to update my other Mac. Liquid Glass is cute, but makes things more difficult to use. Glad neither my mother’s iPad nor my iPhone can update to iOS 26.
Why does Music insist on expanding all your Playlist folders? Previous versions remembered which folder was expanded and only showed the lists in that folder, now you have to scroll down all the expanded folder if the playlist you want is in one of the lower folders.
I suspect so, though I wait even longer. I think this is no longer true:
x.0.1 releases in my experience were for bugs found internally after code freeze, so the minimum serous release is x.0.2.
Doubt that there will be a 26.0.2 release, as 26.1 is wrapping up beta testing. Expect 26.1 next week.
I am waiting until at least the 26.2 version is released. I suspect that also could be the time a newer version of SuperDuper! is released. As it is, there is nothing earth shattering I need with Tahoe, and Sequoia works just fine (v15.7.1 was released yesterday).
