BBEdit 16.0.1

Bare Bones Software has issued BBEdit 16.0.1, the first maintenance release after the venerable text editor was recently upgraded (see “BBEdit 16 Searches for Text in Images, Adds Shortcuts Actions, and More,” 25 May 2026). Providing over 30 bug fixes, the update fixes the bug we reported that prevented the sidebar search in notebooks from finding notes with matched words, improves the experience when editing Markdown files used as input for various content systems (such as Jekyll), addresses a regression in codeless language module scanning that would cause a hang, improves recognition of DSL-style Perl function declarations, prevents a crash that could occur during when switching between Light and Dark modes, fixes a bug in which opening a single file from an FTP browser window would sometimes open it again, and improves handling of W3C validator rate limits. New copies of BBEdit cost $59.99, and upgrades range from $29.99 (for BBEdit 15 owners) to $39.99 (for owners of earlier versions). Bare Bones continues to make the basic feature set of BBEdit 16 available in Free Mode to everyone, with a 30-day trial of the more advanced features. ($59.99 new, upgrades available, free update for version 16 licenses, 32.1 MB, release notes, macOS 14+)
