Apple's Worldwide Developer Conference (WWDC) wrapped up this year with the annual Apple Design Award winners, who received not only fame and Mac developer cred, but a special cube award that lights up when touched
Macworld is reporting on the results of this years Apple Design Awards Ceremony. The annual event honors applications for the Mac or iPhone whose design is considered to be at the top of their class. This year's winners include (for the Mac) Billings, Things, Fontcase, Versions, and BoinxTV. And (for the iPhone) Wooden Labyrinth 3D, Tweetie, Topple 2, MLB.com At Bat 2009, and Postage.
Apple has awarded its annual design awards to 11 apps for Mac and iOS. On the functional side, winners include WWF Together for iPad, which details endangered animals; Procreate for iPad, a drawing app; Yahoo’s new weather app for iPhone and iPad; Web development app Coda 2 for Mac; and note-taker Evernote 5 for Mac. Winning games include Letterpress for iPad and iPhone, Badland for iPhone and iPad, Ridiculous Fishing for iPhone and iPad, and Sky Gamblers: Storm Raiders for iPhone, iPad, and Mac. There were also two student winners: Finish, a streamlined to-do app for iPhone, and mosaic.io, a photo mosaic app for iPhone and iPad.
This year’s WWDC introduced a number of new technologies that should enable even better iOS games, and the Apple Design Awards highlighted some of the past year’s best-designed apps, nearly all of which were for gaming or entertainment.
Apple recognized ten apps at this year’s Apple Design Awards, plus two student efforts. The winners include three apps we’ve reviewed in TidBITS: Fantastical, Robinhood, and Workflow. Also honored were the games Crossy Road, Does Not Commute, Metamorphabet, Shadowmatic, and Vainglory; Mac illustration app Affinity Designer; music mixing app Pacemaker; and student entries Elementary Minute and jump-O. Apple has announced the winners of Apple Design Awards for 2016, recognizing 10 apps, plus 2 student projects. The winners are the education app Complete Anatomy, a to-do list app aimed at helping users develop good habits called Streaks, a fitness training app called Zova that also works on the Apple TV, the video collaboration platform Frame.io, the multi-platform text editor Ulysses, an iOS and Apple TV running game called Chameleon Run, the puzzle game Lara Croft GO, an interesting take on pinball called INKS, Auxy Music Creation, and a DJ app called djay Pro that won an award back in 2011 as well. The two student apps were both games, the puzzle-based Linum, and Dividr, a 2D arcade game written entirely in Swift. Congratulations to all the winners!
As it does every year, Apple has honored 12 apps with its prestigious Apple Design Awards.
